Cricket history is often simplified in hindsight, isolating cause and effect down to singular moments. England are doomed to an Ashes defeat in 1993 and for years after from the moment Shane Warne bowls that ball to Mike Gatting at Old Trafford. Likewise Australias 2005 defeat comes down to Glenn McGrath, a stray ball and a rolled ankle.Similarly, the BCCIs announcement of Australias tour dates for their 2017 Test series feels like another juncture that will come to be seen as symbolic of a tipping point for the international game.It is not as though the close proximity of matches across formats hasnt occurred before. In 2013 the Australian Test team were engaged in a practice match in India on the same day the T20 team played at the Gabba, and the following year Trevor Bayliss was called in as interim T20 coach when Australia faced South Africa in Adelaide because Darren Lehmann and the Test squad were in transit home from the UAE. This month Australia took a threadbare bowling attack to South Africa for ODIs in order to save their best resources for home Tests. But the sheer starkness of a schedule that does not allow even a single day in between the end of one T20 series and the start of a Test match some 14 hours flying time away from Australia has sharpened focus on an issue nagging away at cricket. Both these matches - Australias T20 against Sri Lanka in Adelaide on February 22 and their Test against India in Pune the next day - are considered international contests, not practice fixtures, and both are expected to draw a committed and broad audience, the lifeblood of the games future.Players must choose between formats, despite being told for years by the likes of the Cricket Australia chief executive James Sutherland that there is room in the game to accommodate all three. Coaches and selectors must make careful use of their resources and concede privately it is now more or less impossible to aspire to be the worlds best in all three at once, despite that very goal being a mission statement for CA.Rightly, this is being seen as too much for players and followers of the game to stomach. If the administrators are so unable to leave room in the calendar for matches to be meaningful and also accessible to the players who wish to play in them, the supporters who wish to watch, and the broadcasters and sponsors who wish to bankroll, then the flow-on consequences will be a damaging loss of interest by all concerned.Fans of the game must decide where to spend their money, and how much attention to pay to matches and series packed in so tightly as to leave everyone feeling exhausted at times of the year when they should be anticipating the onset of a fresh home summer. Right now it is far too easy to look cynically upon the whole, which does anything but put fans first. The Australian Cricketers Association, of late an organisation in a state of flux having lost several key contributors in recent years, has found decent voice this week. Simon Katich and the chief executive, Alistair Nicholson, have both spoken sharply on the problem of a distended schedule that has, in the latters words, changed what it means to represent Australia. At the suggestion this week that Australia may need more selectors to be able to get to all the many matches going on concurrently, one player relayed sentiments to the effect that if you didnt laugh, youd cry.Sutherland, for his part, chose to point out publicly that players might be better off skipping the IPL to cope with the demands of the rest of the year despite the fact that both Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc, those two South Africa absentees, do exactly that. Michael Clarke once found himself in trouble with Australian team-mates for making a similar observation during a tour of India.Another shorthand view of history is that the IPL itself does not come into existence without Indias unexpected victory at the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007. In reality, the tournament was already well and truly in the works, and was actually launched after the World T20 began but before MS Dhoni lifted the trophy.Likewise, the job of creating a schedule that affords room to breathe and understanding of why matches are being played is already well underway at the ICC level. This weeks revelation of a conference-style structure for Tests, in addition to leagues for ODIs and T20s, is evidence that the games governors are thinking about the problem and trying to work their way towards a better landscape. But the announcement of a Test match taking place in India little more than 12 hours after a T20 has ended in Australia is the sort of crystallising moment that will ensure those talks carry on with a sense of urgency. They must lead somewhere fruitful before everyone - players, supporters, and those ever so vital commercial partners - runs completely out of patience.Custom Minnesota Twins Jerseys Cheap . Given their dominance at home over the last few years, India are almost certain to become the top-ranked Test team at some point during the 13-Test home season, but Virat Kohlis men dont want to wait that long. They have a great opportunity here, they have West Indies on the mat, they have finished two Tests inside four days, and if they win the last Test they will retain their momentary No. 1 Test ranking that came their way when Australia lost 3-0 to Sri Lanka. If they do manage to win at Queens Park Oval, it will be only the second time that they will have won three Tests in an away series. It hasnt just been about Indias content. West Indies have been accommodating hosts apart for brief spells when they have shown the discipline to push India. There was a time when they had made India bowlers wait 528 balls for a wicket, but lost their last 17 wickets in 63.5 overs to lose the third Test despite a days relief handed to them by rain. There was a time when they had reduced India to 126 for 5 in 49.3 overs but not only did they concede 227 in the rest of that innings, they went at 4.5 an over in the second when they needed to delay Indias declaration. India have been tested but not for long enough.Coming to the only ground where they have won more than they have lost in the last 10 years, West Indies will hope they can put up creditable resistance.Form guideWest Indies LDLDL (last five completed matches, most recent first)India WDWWWIn the spotlightVirat Kohli has made it clear he will be batting at No. 3 to accommodate Rohit Sharma at No. 5. Except that the last Test, when he moved up to No.3, exposing himself to a newish ball, he registered his lowest Test aggregate. Kohli, though, wants to lead by example; if he feels playing Rohit is the right thing to, he will be the first one to make a sacrifice if required. A middling attack is not a bad place to test himself at No. 3 either.First there was Darren Sammy, now there is Jason Holder: pliant Test captains whose spirit cannot be doubted but whose numbers dont justify a settled place in Test XIs. Anybody who has followed this series knows Holder has toiled his socks off but he still remains a No. 8 who averages 48.09 with the ball. He has only one wicket to show for 86.2 overs of tireless bowling with a proud seam in this series.Team newsLeon Johnson, who replaced the failing opener Rajendra Chandrika in the third Test, hasnt set the world alight but has shown promise. West Indies are likely to give him another Test. Quueens Park Oval has traditionally been a spinner-friendly surface so if West Indies bring back Devendra Bishoo, it will have to be at the expense of one of the three specialist quicks, none of whom had a horrible Test in St Lucia.ddddddddddddWest Indies (probable): 1 Kraigg Brathwaite, 2 Leon Johnson, 3 Darren Bravo, 4 Marlon Samuels, 5 Jermaine Blackwood, 6 Roston Chase, 7 Shane Dowrich (wk), 8 Jason Holder (capt), 9, 10 and 11 (out of) Alzarri Joseph, Miguel Cummins, Shannon Gabriel and Devendra BishooVirat Kohli made it quite clear he was not going to give Rohit Sharma just the one Test. With the addition of Bhuvneshwar Kumars swing to the side, the attack is well rounded. The only man whose place might be in question now is Shikhar Dhawan, if India look to draft M Vijay back in.India (probable): 1 KL Rahul, 2 M Vijay/Shikhar Dhawan, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Ajinkya Rahane, 5 Rohit Sharma, 6 R Ashwin, 7 Wriddhiman Saha, 8 Ravindra Jadeja, 9 Bhuvneshwar Kumar, 10 Mohammed Shami, 11 Ishant SharmaPitch and conditionsA dry pitch awaits the teams at the Queens Park Oval, with Kohli expecting turn and bounce for the spinners. Kohli, however, said he had spotted a couple of damp patches on Tuesday, and would wait to see how the pitch looked on the first morning before deciding on the composition of Indias XI. There has been intermittent rain in Port-of-Spain in the lead-up to the match, and weather interruptions are likely.Stats and triviaR Ashwin needs eight wickets in the fourth Test to join Clarrie Grimmett as the fastest to 200 Test wicketsNo West Indies batsman has averaged more than 40 in this series, only two bowlers are under that markFive of Indias batsmen have averaged over 40; none of their bowlers are over that markAmong grounds in West Indies that have hosted 10 or more Tests, Queens Park Oval has afforded spinners the best average - 36.66. The Bourda Oval in Guyana is the only other venue in West Indies where spinners average under 40, a marginal 39.94QuotesIts a nice incentive, but it doesnt really change anything for the team. Our goal has been to play good cricket, and weve done that in the past one year or so. We want to continue with the same.Virat Kohli on the No. 1 Test ranking that will be theirs if they win the final TestPersonally Id have liked to have done a little bit better. With the bat, Ive got a few starts. Wickets have not been coming my way, but [I have been] doing part of my job in terms of holding up the ends and working real hard and giving the other bowlers time to rest. That part Ive been doing well in this series, but I just havent got the wickets to show.Jason Holder assesses his own performance in the series so far ' ' '
