Hallandale Beach, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Nine newly turned 3-year-olds have been entered for Saturdays $100,000 Mucho Macho Man Stakes at Gulfstream Park. The Mucho Macho Man Stakes, formerly the Gulfstream Park Derby, is a mile stakes that kicks off Gulfstream Parks series leading to the $1 million Florida Derby on March 28. Breaking from the far outside post will be trainer Kiaran McLaughlins Mawthooq with Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez. The chestnut colt, who will be making his third lifetime start, is owned by Shadwell Stable. Hes had a couple of nice works. Hes a nice colt and ready to go, said McLaughlin. Well see how we stand. Mawthooq got his career underway at Belmont Park on Oct. 11 with a distant second going six furlongs. On Nov. 26 at Aqueduct the colt ran away to win a mile race by 10 1/2 lengths with Cornelio Velasquez riding again. We hooked a very nice colt the first time out who we finished second to, McLaughlin said. The next out he won easy on a wet track, so you never know, but hes a really nice horse. He always trained good. Hes straightforward. He was a little keen early in his last race, but Cornelio (Velasquez) did a nice job trying to slow him down early. Hes done everything right since that race. Ask me April 15th how we like him, but right now we like him a lot. Locally based trainer Stanley Gold will saddle Twotwentyfive A for a sixth time in the chestnut colts career. Owned by Jacks or Better Farm, Twotwentyfive A will be ridden by Jesus Rios from post 5. I think the distance will be good for him and its one turn, Gold said. Well throw out the two (Gulfstream Park West) races. He didnt run good there, but he trained good before them and he trained good after them. This is a definite class check. Twotwentyfive A captured the seven-furlong $250,000 Affirmed Division of the Florida Sire Stakes at Gulfstream Park on Sept. 6 just five weeks after winning his debut start. He then finished fourth the next two starts with a fifth on Nov. 29. The colt has banked $203,038. Here is the field for the Mucho Macho Man in post position order: Dekabrist, Oriel Chavez; Amis Flatter, Luis Contreras; Bluegrass Singer, Javier Castellano; A. Rod Again, Julien Leparoux; Twotwentyfive A, Jesus Rios; Honest, Paco Lopez; Juan and Bina, Edgar Prado; Brother Bobo, Gabriel Saez and Mawthooq, John Velazquez. Post time for the Mucho Macho Man Stakes will be approximately 5:01 p.m. ET. "If we only consider this season," Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini said, "there is just one club in Manchester -- and its ours." That comment -- an eye-catching one from a coach usually so reserved in front of the media -- was made last month ahead of a Champions League game against Barcelona. To some, it was a mere statement of fact, with City 12 points ahead of United in the Premier League at the time and still in contention for trophies on four fronts. To others, it was unnecessary goading. And it no doubt will have hit a nerve over at Old Trafford, at a club that is the reigning English champion and had ruled football in the city for the past three decades. For that reason, United may take even more pleasure than usual if it can beat City in Tuesdays Manchester derby at Old Trafford. "Well, Manchester United had lots and lots of seasons of domination," Moyes said Monday, when asked about Pellegrinis comment. "I dont think if I was a manager I would have turned round and necessarily said that we were the only club in Manchester because football does change, it goes in cycles." "I think its important for us to show the level weve got," Moyes added, "and that were not as far away as many people would have us." For the first time in a generation, City will head across town as the favourite to beat its fiercest rival at Old Trafford. United is down in seventh place in the standings after a turbulent first season under Moyes and City, to many, is the team most likely to be raising the Premier League trophy on May 11. Pelllegrinis side is six points behind first-place Chelsea with three games in hand.dddddddddddd If it wins its remaining 11 games, City cannot be stopped. "We always expect to go and win," said a confident Pellegrini, whose first Manchester derby ended in a 4-1 victory for his side in September. "Its not just because Manchester United has had a difficult season (that) we are going to go there and win." That derby defeat was Uniteds first crushing loss under Moyes this season -- and a few more have followed over the next six months. But what a difference a week has made for the United manager. He woke last Monday to scathing headlines after an embarrassing 3-0 home loss to Liverpool, with suggestions abound that his time could be up if United was eliminated from the Champions League. Seven days later and bolstered by two victories in a four-day span that kept the team in Europe and got it back on track in the league, Moyes was clicking his fingers as he walked cheerily through the clubs training complex and sitting a little comfier in his chair at the pre-match news conference. Its been that kind of season for Alex Fergusons replacement -- a massive low one week followed by a big high the next. Theres been no consistency and of the many alarming statistics to blight Moyes short reign, one perhaps stands out -- United has just one win this campaign against a team in the current top nine. "We want to try to perform better in the bigger games than weve done, Ive got no doubt about that," said Moyes, whose team is 18 points behind Chelsea. "Ive got no doubt it will improve, and I want us to show were still in there fighting." ' ' '
